Library Classes
Kindergarten: Students in Kindergarten will get the chance to listen to stories read aloud to them each week. They will often do an activity related to the story they heard. Students will also learn how to locate items of interest in the library on their own through guided practices. Students will get the chance to partner read or independently read each library visit.
1st Grade: Students in 1st Grade will continue to build upon skills learned last year. They will locate items on the library shelves to check out. Each week they will practice a skill or listen to a story read aloud to them and do a corresponding activity. Independent and partner reading continues to be strongly encouraged! Finding "Just Right" books that they can independently read will be a major focus this year.
2nd Grade: Students in 2nd grade will visit places throughout the world through stories. They will also begin to learn the steps of locating information within a book or article for research purposes. Finding "Just Right" books continues to be encouraged and monitored. Students will also learn about the Caldecott Award, the most well-known Children's Book Award in the world! Students may check out 2 books at a time from the library.
3rd Grade: Students in 3rd Grade will delve deeply into the process of locating books on the OPAC (online computer system) and on our library shelves. By the end of this school year, they will be the experts in our school on this process!! They will also learn about new books, both fiction and nonfiction, that are "Just Right" for them. Students may check out 3 items at a time from the library (books, magazines and/or audio books).
4th Grade: Students in 4th Grade will begin developing their research skills with a few research projects being conducting during library class times. Students will make use of their Chromebooks daily in library classes. Literature will not be forgotten...students will hear about new and old books that are perfect for their age group. Students may check out 4 items at a time from the library (books, magazines and/or audio books).
5th Grade: Students in 5th Grade will further develop their researching skills during library classes by conducting a dew research projects, as individuals and with groups. Students will make use of their Chromebooks daily in library classes. We will take time to discuss many new and old books that students in 5th Grade will enjoy! Students may check out 5 items at a time from the library (books, magazines and/or audio books).
6th Grade: Students in 6th Grade will be utilizing the researching skills they've learned over the years to conduct several research projects during library classes. Students will make use of their Chromebooks daily in library classes. We will make time to discuss new and old books that students in 6th Grade will enjoy. Students are always encouraged to make reading recommendations to their peers and teachers. Students may check out 6 items at a time from the library (books, magazines and/or audio books).
